Eight Reasons Why you need to start blogging

Eight Reasons to Start Blogging

When people ask me, “What keeps you busy?” I often get a puzzled look every time I tell them I’m into blogging. Despite the millions of blogs online, a lot of people still don’t understand what makes blogging so popular, powerful and beneficial.

In this article, I would like to share with you the benefits I got when I started my own blog site:

1. Freedom to express myself

What I love most about blogging is that it gives me an avenue where I can freely share my thoughts and ideas about anything I find interesting. When I do this, it gives me a sense of fulfillment when I can share something beneficial to others. In addition, the freedom of expression that I enjoy so much also helps me create larger editorial ideas which I normally use for other purposes such as in writing eBooks.

2. Helps me improve my writing skills

As the saying goes, “practice makes perfect.” This also applies to writing where correct practice and learning from one’s mistakes leads to perfection. The more you write, the more you become knowledgeable in a wide range of topics and the more you can sharpen your writing style. Even as I have written thousands of articles and blogs before, I still learn something new with each new post or content I write.

3. Helps me build my online portfolio

My blog showcases my writing skills and gives me exposure online. If you are an aspiring author like me, you can easily refer your prospective clients to your blog if they would ask for a sample of your work.

4. Helps me grow my network

Since the time I started my blog, I have met a lot of new people including other bloggers and readers who share my ideas and passion. My new online network gives me a broader and better perspective in my fields of interest. Some of these relationships remain professional while others develop into friendship.

5. Enables me to help others

Being able to help other people gives meaning to what I am doing. I personally believe that the ultimate purpose of every blog is to give and not get. I don’t just express myself in my blog, I also write something that will benefit my readers positively. So, for this blog post, my goal is to help you understand why you should start blogging now.

Aside from these benefits, blogging can also serve many other purposes.

6. Market Your Business

Yes, a well-developed blog lets you gain online visibility, grow your lead, and ultimately grow your profit. By saying well developed, it means a blog that effectively attracts readership. For instance, if your business is about gadgets, you could create a blog that tackles on the many important aspects of gadgets. This may include how-to articles, guides or the latest industry news which may be helpful and entertaining to readers. As your blog gains more traffic, you could also redirect more people to your business website.

7. Promote Your Brand

Whether you are a startup or an established business, your blog can have a significant impact on your business growth. It can serve as the foundation of your online presence to reach out to your potential customers. Within your blog, you can advertise for free, get in touch with your existing customers and provide a knowledge base that can be useful to your readers. They are all good opportunities for promoting your brand.

8. Establish Yourself as an Expert

You can’t just start a blog one day and be considered an expert the next day. It may be hard to establish yourself as an expert online, but it will be worth all the patience and perseverance in the end. The more you write content that features your deeper understanding in one field, the more readers you will earn. Your blog will eventually not just be any ordinary blog. More readers will visit it to get your insights and ideas. In the end, you may get recognition and career or consulting opportunities.

If you love to write and plan to start a blog but can’t find any motivation to do so, I am hoping that this article will help you push through with your goal or plan. You don’t need to be an expert writer to start blogging. You also don’t need to be an expert in HTML and other programming languages. Getting started with the tips and tricks from already established PRO bloggers is also helpful, and I would recommend First Site Guide if you are are starting your first blog.

For instance, when I started blogging, I was not very knowledgeable about any programming language. For beginners, I suggest using WordPress as it is very user-friendly. This platform is customizable using a wide range of plugins. You may want to check out my previous articles about WordPress Themes and Plugin for Beginners.

  1. Good stuff Ugyen. I love #2. When I started blogging 8 years ago I never knew how #2 would become so important to me. I love expressing myself through the written word and through my videos and my eBooks and all that good stuff. Fabulous way to help others too. As you express who you really are it becomes easier to inspire your readers to do the same.
